Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume on Thursday, commissioned the Idye flood control project at Nyiman, a community in Makurdi, Benue State.

The SGF was represented by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Professor Terlumun Utsev at the commissioning of the project, tagged: “The Idye Flood Control/Dyke Project”.

Humsimedia gathered that the project commissioning by government was meant to curtail the menace of flooding which has ravaged most communities across the country especially during the rainy seasons.

Senator Akume said that the Flood Control/Dyke Project, spanning a distance of 1.2 kilometers, is a shining example of what can be achieved when government agencies, private sector partners and local communities come together with a shared purpose.

He said: “The project will not only protect the environment and infrastructure but will also safeguard the lives and livelihoods of countless individuals who call this region home.”

The SGF said that the Federal Government last month, commissioned one of those projects at Koton Karfe, in Kogi State, and has many more to commission in other parts of the country throughout June, July, and August by the Special Grace of Almighty God.

Senator Akume told the people of Benue State that the completion of this project was a significant milestone in the efforts by the Management Committee of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), under the able leadership of the Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa (Katukan Yauri).

He said that the project was aimed to mitigate the devastating effects of floods and erosion in Benue State, and urged every member of the community to protect the project and ensure that the infrastructure remained resilient and effective ahead of future challenges.

The SGF appreciated the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, members of the National Assembly and the people of the State for the successful completion of the project.
