Following the launch of Strategy 2026-2030 on 16th March 2026, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has commenced a comprehensive strategy cascading exercise aimed at translating enterprise-wide goals into actionable directorate-level plans.

Built on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) framework, the Enterprise Strategy is anchored on five Strategic Pillars and twelve Strategic Objectives, providing a clear roadmap for strengthening meteorological service delivery, enhancing organizational performance, and advancing climate resilience across Nigeria.

Recognizing that successful strategy execution requires alignment at every level of the organization, NiMet initiated the cascading exercise to ensure that all directorates understand their roles and contributions toward achieving the Agency’s strategic vision.

The exercise focuses on translating enterprise objectives into directorate-specific priorities by aligning goals, processes, and performance measures with the Agency’s overall strategic direction.

It also provides a framework for mapping operational activities to strategic outcomes, establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) for accountability, and extending strategic objectives to individual performance plans to promote ownership and responsibility across the workforce.

To ensure effective participation and engagement, the exercise was organized into four batches covering NiMet’s nine directorates and the Office of the Director General/CEO.

The first batch brought together the Directorate of Weather Forecasting Services and the Directorate of Applied Meteorological Services.

The second batch involved the Office of the Director General/CEO, the Directorate of Corporate Services, and the Directorate of Research and Training.

The third batch featured the Directorate of Engineering and Technical Services alongside the Directorate of Human Resource Management and Administration.

The final batch included the Directorate of Finance and Accounts, the Directorate of Public Affairs and Customer Protection, and the Legal Services Directorate.

Through this structured approach, NiMet is fostering stronger alignment between strategy and operations, ensuring that every directorate contributes meaningfully to the Agency’s long-term objectives.

The cascading exercise is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, improve service delivery, enhance accountability, and create a unified pathway for achieving the Agency’s vision of delivering world-class meteorological services for national development.
