    Nigerian Govt Re-affirms Commitment To Revitalise The Nation’s Ailing Textile Industry

    The Federal Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to revitalising the nation’s textile industry.

    Segun Imohiosen, the Director Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF, disclosed this in a statement signed on Wednesday.

    Humsimedia gathered that the need to revitalise the industry is the recognising its strategic importance for job creation, economic diversification and sustainable development.

    The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, CON, made the disclosure when the delegates of The Cotton, Textile and Garment Development Forum (CTGDF) led by its Coordinator, Chief (Dr) Anibe Achimugu paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

    Sen. Akume emphasised the crucial role of the textile industry in transforming Nigeria’s economy and fostering viable economic growth to the nation’s GDP.

    “This administration understands that the textile industry is vital to Nigeria’s economic growth and that is why it decided to constitute a board to ensure that there is a revitalisation of the industry.

    “The reactivation of this crucial sector will create job opportunities and industrialisation’’

    He further stressed on the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to create an enabling environment for businesses and talents to thrive maximally and express their talents efficiently.

    Coordinator of the Cotton, Textile, Garment Development Forum (CTGDF), Chief (Dr) Anibe Achimugu, expressed his profound gratitude to the SGF for his pivotal support which led to the approval of the establishment of The Cotton, Textile and Garment Development Board (CTGDB) by the National Economic Council (NEC) at its 149th meeting held on the 24th of April 2025, chaired by His Excellency, The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima.

    Dr Achimugu said: “The CTG value chain offers one of Nigeria’s best opportunities for inclusive economic growth- creating millions of jobs, revitalising rural communities, boosting non-oil exports and reducing textile import dependence currently exceeding 5Billon Dollars annually.

    “We are committed to working with the Federal Government to reposition the CTG Sector as a cornerstone of economic diversification, capable of creating over 2 million jobs, saving foreign exchange and contributing significantly to national GDP’’.
