The Nigerian Army has recovered its official X (formerly Twitter) account, @HQNigerianArmy, more than two months after it was compromised by unauthorised access.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele announced the restoration in a statement signed on Sunday, 8 November 2026.
The statement said, the account is now fully secured, with administrative control reinstated, paving the way for the resumption of regular updates on the Army’s activities, operations, achievements and institutional developments.
The account was first reported to have been subjected to unauthorised access on 29 August 2026, a development that temporarily disrupted the Army’s official communication on the platform.
Colonel Anele said the successful recovery underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding its digital communication platforms, protecting the integrity of information, and ensuring the continued use of credible and secure channels for public engagement.
The Army also appreciated Nigerians, members of the media and other stakeholders for their understanding, patience and support throughout the period the account was inaccessible.
It further acknowledged their cooperation in sustaining access to credible information through its alternative official communication platforms during the period.
Members of the public have been encouraged to reconnect with and follow the restored account, @HQNigerianArmy, for timely, authentic and verified information on Nigerian Army activities and developments.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to transparent and effective strategic communication, sustained public engagement, and strengthening the bond of trust between the military and the Nigerian people.
