The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) yesterday welcomed Professor Qrisstuberg Msughter Amua, Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (UAST), Ihugh and a delegation of principal officers.
A statement from the office of the Vice- Chancellor, UAST, Ihugh and made available to the Daily Times says, the visit marks the beginning of a promising partnership aimed at fostering national development.
Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, extended a warm welcome to the UAST delegation, emphasizing the importance of building cooperative bridges between institutions.
He highlighted the necessity for universities in Nigeria to collaborate in order to drive innovation and research.
“This visit is prophetic,” stated Professor Abdul Rahman. “It underscores the urgent need for knowledge institutions to focus on collaboration rather than competition. FULafia is dedicated to serving as a mentor to UAST during its formative years.”
Professor Amua expressed gratitude for the reception, describing FULafia as a “fortress of academic excellence.” He recognized the university’s impactful journey and underscored the need for UAST to learn from its successful template.
“Our visit is not just ceremonial; it is strategic and deeply symbolic,” Professor Amua remarked. “We aim to forge alliances that will enhance our academic and research capabilities, particularly in addressing food security and technological advancement.”
The discussions culminated in a commitment to draft a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement will outline the framework for collaborative initiatives, including joint research projects, staff exchanges, and shared access to facilities.
Both leaders articulated their shared vision of transforming higher education in Nigeria through strategic partnerships. They believe that collaboration will yield innovative solutions to national challenges.
The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both institutions, creating an ecosystem conducive to research and development. The focus will be on translating academic research into real-world applications that benefit society.
