With barely three weeks to the end of his administration, Senator Shehu Sani has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to come clean on the billions of Naira allegedly released to the National Food Security Council.
Senator Sani also threw the challenge at the Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu who had worked with President Buhari as deputy on the National Food Security Council.
Other members of the Council included the governors of Taraba, Plateau, Lagos, Ebonyi and Delta States, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief of Staff to the President, National Security Adviser and seven cabinet ministers including that of Agriculture.
On his Twitter handle, @ShehuSani, the human rights activist and politician told President Buhari and his deputy to simply explain to Nigerians how much was recently released into the National Food Security Council.
Also in the spirit of accountability, Senator Sani said that Nigerians would want to know what the billions of Naira was used for or what it would be used.
@ShehuSani wrote: “There is an Organ called the National Food Security Council chaired by President Buhari & deputised by the Kebbi Governor.Nigerians will like to know how much was recently released to this organ and what the billions was used for or what it will be used for:Simple!”
In March, 2018, the President established the Council with the objectives of developing sustainable solutions to the problem of farmers–herdsmen clashes, climate change and desertification and their impact on farmlands.
The Council was also to address the issues of grazing areas and lakes, rivers and other water bodies; oil spillage and its impact on Niger Delta fishing communities; piracy and banditry; agricultural research institutions and extension services and the problem of smuggling.
