As Colombia continues its rescue and relief efforts after a powerful earthquake, China is stepping in with emergency assistance.
80 tonnes of aid, including generators, water purification equipment, tents, blankets and solar lighting, are on their way from Beijing to Bogota, where they will be delivered to communities affected by the disaster.
This aid to Colombia is not the first as China regularly dispatches emergency humanitarian supplies, medical teams, and cash assistance to countries impacted by natural disasters, conflict, or public health crises.
Recent efforts include cash assistance for flood-hit southern African nations (such as Zimbabwe and Malawi) and humanitarian provisions for conflict zones in the Middle East.
Beijing also partners with bodies like the United Nations Development Programme to build climate disaster early-warning systems in vulnerable regions.
