The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu through the Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), has donated 400 bags of fertilizer to farmers in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State as part of efforts to strengthen Civil-Military Cooperation and support local communities affected by insecurity.

Lt Col Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, disclosed this in a statement.

The event, which took place at the Palace of the Emir of Maru on Thursday, 14 May 2026, brought together government officials, military officers, traditional rulers, and members of the community.

As part of corporate social responsibility and commitment to improving the livelihood of local communities, the COAS undertook the intervention to support farmers ahead of the 2026 farming season and contribute to improved food production within the state.

Speaking during the occasion, the Theatre Commander, Major General Warrah Idris, represented by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Usman Abdullahi, stated that the initiative symbolized the commitment of the Armed Forces to strengthening peace and rebuilding hope within communities affected by insecurity.

He reiterated the resolve of the Armed Forces and other security agencies to sustain ongoing operations against terrorism and other criminal activities across Zamfara State and the wider North West region.

He also urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the fertilizers during the farming season while encouraging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.

Earlier, the Vice Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, Honourable Laminu Dansadau, described the gesture as timely and commendable.

He appreciated the Nigerian Army and Operation FANSAN YAMMA for supporting farmers and strengthening the local economy.

The Emir of Maru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Gado Maigari, thanked the COAS for the intervention and assured that the fertilizers would be distributed fairly to genuine farmers across the emirate.

The event featured symbolic distribution of fertilizers to selected beneficiaries, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
