Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has charged political actors in the state to shun bitterness and divisive tendencies and embrace issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor said campaigns should focus on policies and programmes capable of returning the state to its former glory.
Alia gave the charge during a thanksgiving service at St. Agatha’s Parish, Wajir, Lobi-Kartyo, in Ushongo Local Government Area, organized in honour of Rev. Fr. Gabriel Ngbea, following his appointment as a member of the Federal Character Commission, FCC, representing Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi States.
The governor disclosed that his administration plans to resuscitate the Ber Agbum Farm in Mbaivende, Ushongo LGA, as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity, attract investment and create employment opportunities for the people.
He revealed that foreign investors have already expressed interest in the farm, expressing optimism that the revival process would be concluded soon.
Alia further disclosed that his administration has, within three and a half years, revived and established seven factories with direct economic benefits to the people, reaffirming his commitment to restoring Benue’s productive capacity and expanding opportunities.
He highlighted the representation of Ushongo sons and daughters in his administration, including the Chief Press Secretary, Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, and members of the Assembly Service Commission, among others, and urged Fr. Ngbea to use his new position at the federal level to facilitate employment opportunities for qualified Benue indigenes.
In his remarks, the Tor Kwande, HRH Ambrose Iortyer, appealed to the state government to address the deplorable condition of roads in his domain, while also calling for the revival of Ber Agbum Farm and Ikyongen Cattle Ranch.
On his part, the Tor Jechira, HRH Edward Ujege, called on the people to support the Alia administration to enable it deliver on its development agenda.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Linus Hwaabo urged the congregation to embrace peace and unity, stressing that harmonious relationships would attract God’s blessings.
Responding, the celebrant, Rev. Fr. Ngbea, expressed gratitude to the people of Mbaivende for the honour bestowed on him and pledged to use his new office to facilitate employment opportunities for Benue people.
