As part of efforts to foster mutual understanding, regional cooperation, and academic exchange, a delegation from the Algerian War College (AWC) on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, visited Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) in Asokoro, Abuja, on a strategic study tour.

College Public Relations Officer, Major Hashimu Sa’ad Abdullahi disclosed this in a statement.

The high-powered delegation was led by the Head of the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Department of the Algerian War College, Major General Baouche Amirouche.

The visit forms part of the Algerian War College’s continental study tour designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the military education and training systems of allied African countries.

The tour also aims to promote research and collaboration in key areas of security and defence education, as well as the exchange of expertise in leadership development, strategic thinking, and wargaming practices.

The Commandant Army War College Nigeria, Major General Umar Muhammed Alkali, warmly received the delegation and expressed appreciation for selecting Nigeria as part of their academic engagement.

He highlighted the visit as a testament to the growing spirit of cooperation among African military institutions, particularly in an era where transnational threats demand collective strategic responses.

Major General Alkali emphasized the College’s commitment to producing well-trained, educated, and inspired operational-level leaders for the Nigerian Army, in line with its mission.

He called for deeper collaboration in the areas of curriculum development, joint training exercises, counter-terrorism strategies, and cultural exchanges, stressing that such engagements will further strengthen military diplomacy and operational efficiency on the continent.

The Head of the Algerian delegation, Major General Baouche Amirouche, expressed profound appreciation for the warm reception accorded the team.

He noted that the visit has broadened the perspectives of the Algerian War College participants on Nigeria’s defence architecture, the structure and role of AWCN, and the strategic initiatives being implemented by the Nigerian Army in professional military education.

He further commended the College for its advanced facilities, comprehensive curriculum, and the depth of operational research being conducted.

During the visit, the delegation was given an extensive briefing on the structure, programmes, and strategic roles of the AWCN by Colonel OG Olayinka.

They also toured key infrastructures within the College, including lecture halls, syndicate rooms, and the library.

The visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs between both institutions and a group photograph to commemorate the visit.
