The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako has advocated for the use of environment friendly vehicles like electric and compressed natural gas vehicles to reduce emissions and achieve clean energy.

The Ministry’s Head, Press and Public Relations Unit, Ibrahim Haruna said this in a statement signed on Thursday.

Salako made the advocacy recently when the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Sector Command, led by the Sector Commandant, Corp Commander Chorrie Isah Muta’a and his team paid a working visit to the Minister in his Office in Abuja.

The Minister said that emission from vehicles was one of the major challenges of ensuring a secured and sustainable environment.

He added that vehicles must be in good working condition in order to maintain minimal level of emission.

To achieve this, Salako tasked the Commission to double its effort in the creation of awareness as well as educate and caution motorists accordingly.

He assured the Corp Commandant that his ministry was committed to collaborate with the Commission to ensure safety on our roads by ensuring timely dissemination on bad weather conditions which may have adverse effects on motorists.

The Sector Commandant said that the visit to the ministry was important for effective collaboration.

He emphasized that environmental issues contributed a lot to their organization, (FRSC).

Muta’a revealed that for them to educate and inform the road users and the general public on weather conditions, flood areas, the Ministry of Environment and its Agencies were very crucial to FRSC in order to achieve its mandate.

He lamented that the three common causes of accidents on our road included human, environmental and mechanical factors.

The environmental factor is one of the causes of road accidents which necessitated the Commission to partner with the Ministry and its Agencies for achieving the mandate of the commission.

He congratulated the Minister for his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Minister of State for Environment.
