The Director-General, NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has told Corps Members to use the social media with a sense of responsibility.

Caroline Embu, the NYSC’s Director, Information and Public Relations disclosed this in a statement signed on Tuesday.

He encouraged them to use it to promote the ideals of the NYSC and national unity.

He also informed the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps Members that they would participate in the 2027 General elections.

He told them that as stakeholders and members of the NYSC, they had to be completely non-partisan, adding that this must be reflected even in their social media engagements.

The Director-General made these remarks while addressing Corps members deployed to the FCT and Nasarawa State and their orientation camps in Kubwa and Keffi, respectively.

General Nafiu further urged the Corps Members to make friends among themselves and, in fact, treasure the relationships as they may have endless positive possibilities.

He gave examples of prominent Nigerians who had forged enduring friendships from their service year.

The Director-General told the Corps Members that the service year had provided them the opportunity of exposure to the different parts and peoples of Nigeria so that they could better understand and appreciate Nigeria’s diversity.

General Nafiu expressed the hope that the spirit of camaderie, passion, and oneness, which characterised their platoon engagements, will be carried into their future, in furtherance of national unity.

The NYSC helmsman noted that some of the Corps Members may have benefited from the service of Corps teachers in the past. He said now was their turn to serve others and to give back to the country.

General Nafiu also counselled the Corps Members on the need to engage in the Skills and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training with commitment, pointing out that it could provide extra income or even full time jobs after the service year.

The Director-General further offered financial counsel to the Corps Members, urging them to save a portion of their allowance throughout the service year. He said that the service year would certainly be challenging, but it was a year of service and sacrifice.

He enjoined the Corps Members to deploy the numerous ideas vested in them, to emulate the community development legacies of their predecessors, dotted across the country; to make positive impact, as they contribute to nation-building and national development.

The FCT Coordinator, Samson Ateli disclosed that 6,225 Corps Members had registered to serve in the Federal Territory, while his Nasarawa counterpart, Hajia Salamatu Muhammad said the Keffi camp registered 2,679 Corps Members, including 796, deployed to serve in the FCT.
