The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the Federal Character Principle in all its operations, while pledging closer collaboration with the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to deepen equity, fairness and national integration.

Caroline Embu, the Director, Information and Public Relations disclosed this in a statement signed on Tuesday.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

General Nafiu commended the Commission for its steadfast commitment to ensuring equity in recruitment, appointments, promotions and the distribution of personnel across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

He noted that the NYSC has consistently adhered to due process and government regulations in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities, earning widespread recognition for excellence in public service delivery.

The Director General reiterated the Scheme’s commitment to fully complying with both the letter and spirit of the Federal Character Principle, describing it as a critical instrument for ensuring equitable representation of Nigerians across states, geopolitical zones, ethnic groups and religious backgrounds.

General Nafiu also observed that the mandate of the NYSC and the Federal Character Commission are complementary, as both institutions are dedicated to promoting national unity, inclusiveness and equal participation in nation-building.

He further pledged that the NYSC would continue to work closely with the Commission in ensuring full compliance with extant guidelines on personnel placement and other matters relating to the Federal Character Principle.

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hulayat Omidiran, explained that the Commission was established to promote fairness and inclusiveness in the operations of government institutions by ensuring equitable representation of all segments of the Nigerian federation.

She urged ministries, departments and agencies to strictly adhere to the Commission’s policies and guidelines in order to sustain public confidence and prevent feelings of marginalisation among citizens.

Before the courtesy visit, the NYSC Director General held an interactive session with the FCC Committee on Social Development, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, chaired by the Federal Commissioner representing Plateau State, Hon. Pam Bot-Mang.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and advancing equity in recruitment, postings, promotions and appointments across government institutions.
