The Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Centre for Energy Research and Training, Ahmadu Bello University led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed have formalized a strategic alliance through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding

Speaking at the signing, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, emphasized the critical role of science and innovation in improving national outcomes.

“Our collaboration with CERT-ABU will support joint research in climate science, enhance radiological monitoring—including in aviation—and foster climate-smart agricultural practices. Together, we are leveraging science to improve livelihoods and build national resilience,” he stated.

Prof. Anosike further noted that meteorological data plays a pivotal role in enhancing environmental safety, supporting agricultural productivity, and informing early warning systems.

He also mentioned collaborative efforts in soil mapping, downscaling Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP), and capacity building across key sectors.

Professor Adamu Ahmed lauded the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) for its significant contributions to agricultural development through the provision of accurate and timely weather and climate information.

He added: “Through this partnership with NiMet, we look forward to joint activities in radioactive materials mapping, technical training, and the development of tools and strategies to enhance environmental monitoring, food security, and public safety.”
