The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has issued a Medium Flood Risk Advisory valid from 21-27 July 2026, across 17 States.
The States include; Abia, Anambra,Bauchi, Benue, Bayelsa, Edo, Enugu, Delta, Plateau, Imo, and Jigawa.
Others are, Kaduna, Niger, Kano, Lagos, Ondo as well as Rivers.
Localized inundation is expected along main river channels, while 16 Stations are identified to be at risk.
Key Stations at risk include;
Saminara on the Karam River, Waya Dam Site on the Waya River, and Amber on the Amber River.
Exposure; Thousands of communities, schools, health facilities, markets, religious centers, and farmlands are within the projected flood footprint.

Imo; 415 communities, 423 schools, 198 health facilities, 49 markets, 75 farms, LGA’s, Ideato North, ihitte, Ikeduru, Mbaitoli, Ngo- Okpa, Njaba,,etc
Kaduna; 168 communities, 16 schools, 3 health facilities, LGA’s Lere
Plateau; 205 communities, 137 schools, 44 health facilities, 64 farmlands, LGA’s Kanam, Kanke, Langtang- North.
Benue; 5 communities, 8 Schools, LGA’s; Buruku, Katsina-Ala

Recommended Actions;
Monitor and check NIHSA’s bulletins daily for updates on River levels.
Pre-position relief, water treatment and first-aid supplies, identify and prepare safe shelters.
Mobilize community early warning volunteers.
Do not cross flooded roads, bridges or fast moving water on foot, or vehicle.
Move livestock, people, and valuables from the Floodplain to pre- identified higher-ground.
Avoid building or living in the Floodplain.
Citizens are advised to remain vigilant, and to act in accordance with the recommendations above to mitigate the potential impacts.
