The National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) North Central Director, Bashir Idris Garga visited Plateau State to express condolences for the recent Mangu LGA communal crises.
Relief items provided by the Federal Government through NEMA were presented to the State Government and will be distributed to affected victims in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency.
During the visit, the State Emergency Management Agency Discussions on emergency management issues in Plateau State were addressed.
The Director, along with the team of NEMA led by Zonal Coordinator NEMA North Central Eugene Nyelong proceeded to pay a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Muftwang, who appreciated NEMA’s swift response to crises nationwide and the recent crises in Plateau state in particular.
The Zonal Director briefed the Governor on the recent NEMA structural changes in the six geopolitical zones who are now Directorates to allow for prompt response to emergencies devoid of unnecessary bureaucracy.
He further said that prevalent disasters in the zone were banditry, farmers- herders imbroglio and assured that NEMA would collaborate with the State governments to research on the best ways to address communal violent conflicts using the principles of Sendai framework of action under its Disaster Risk Reduction mandate.
The Zonal Director also inspected the Zonal office’s equipment holdings and assessed the agency’s warehouse during the visit.
