The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North Central Zonal office, Jos plateau State on Saturday, commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of recent communal crisis in Mangu Local Government Area of plateau State.
The North Central Zonal Director of the Agency Mr Bashir Idris Garga who represented the Director General, Mustapha Habib Ahmed said it was barbaric and unfortunate how Mangu had turned to as result of the crisis.
He said that no one had the right to take another one’s life no matter the circumstances.
On the relief intervention, the Zonal Director remarked that the items were not meant to compensate the losses of the people but to provide succour and reduce the impact of the crises.
He assured the IDPs that all the people that were affected by the crisis would benefit from the items irrespective of tribe or religion.
Mr.Bashir urged the people to embrace peace and unity in order to restore the lost glory of Mangu.
Earlier in his remarks, the management committee chairman of the Local Government Mr Markus Artu appreciated the Agency for several supports they had received from it since the crisis engulfed the Local Government Area.
The Executive Secretary of Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (PLASEMA) Mr. Sunday Abdu equally appreciated NEMA for the numerous assistance the State had received since its establishment and pledged to further strengthen the existing collaboration with NEMA.
The flag off of the distribution which took place in Mangu had in attendance the following Stakeholders: The Red Cross, CAN, JNI Security Agency, PLASEMA, community leaders among other.
The relief materials included food and non-food items.
