The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, today received the Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bello Muhammed Goronyo, at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit focused on the ongoing rescue operations following the tragic boat mishap that occurred on Sunday, 17th August 2025, in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, as well as wider flood-related challenges currently affecting the State.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar assured the Minister that rescue efforts in Goronyo will be sustained and further intensified.
She reaffirmed NEMA’s unwavering commitment to efficient disaster preparedness and response, particularly in ensuring timely and coordinated interventions to mitigate the impact of flooding across the country.
The Minister commended NEMA’s prompt response to the boat mishap and other disaster incidents, while urging the Agency to sustain and build on the progress made in strengthening Nigeria’s disaster management system.
