Nearly three decades after Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, the people of Makurdi and Guma Local Government Areas, which form the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in Benue State, continue to grapple with stagnation.

What was once a vibrant hub of subsistence farming and agricultural livelihoods has eroded under the weight of rising input costs, declining yields, rampant insecurity, and limited access to farmland.

Today, displacement, youth unemployment, and falling incomes have frayed the socio-economic fabric of these communities, leaving residents yearning for representation that delivers tangible change.

Enter Dr. Iorwakwagh Apera, a seasoned development practitioner whose mantra, “Kwagh U Aondo” – an idea whose time has come – signals a bold bid for the 2027 federal constituency seat. Trained to rigorously assess the impact of public investments.

Dr. Apera laments the growing disconnect between government spending and the “felt needs” of Makurdi/Guma’s people. “Representation must be practical, responsive, and accountable – not symbolic,” he asserts, drawing from decades of hands-on experience in governance, humanitarian response, and economic empowerment.

Dr. Apera’s vision redefines legislative duty through continuous community engagement, prioritizing the aggregation of local needs and fierce advocacy within government and among development partners.

To make this a reality, he pledges to establish quarterly Community Engagement Forums, a responsive Constituency Office, a Community Needs Tracking Mechanism, and a transparent Feedback and Reporting System.

These platforms, he says, will amplify constituents’ voices and ensure measurable outcomes on the ground. What sets Dr. Apera apart is his proven track record.

His career spans social protection, poverty reduction, human capital development, governance strengthening, and economic initiatives across government, international organizations, and development partners.

Deeply rooted in Makurdi/Guma, he intimately understands the constituency’s pain points: farmer-herder conflicts, insecurity-driven displacement, youth joblessness, poor healthcare access, educational gaps, and crumbling rural infrastructure. “I’ve lived these realities”.

Dr. Apera notes, emphasizing practical solutions born from life experience.Leveraging his national and international networks, Dr. Apera is poised to attract investments, mobilize development programs, and unlock opportunities – particularly for youth and women, whom he views as the constituency’s backbone.

His commitments include skills training, entrepreneurship support, access to finance, and leadership development for these groups, fostering sustainable prosperity.

A unifier in a diverse constituency, Dr. Apera brings credibility, a calm temperament, and bridge-building skills to heal divisions and drive collective progress.

Known for results-oriented leadership, he promises transparent updates, open communication, and visible impact, holding himself accountable to the people.

As Makurdi/Guma eyes 2027, Dr. Apera’s campaign cries out: the time for effective, inclusive representation is now.

Kwagh U Aondo – a new chapter beckons.
