The National Open University of Nigeria Alumni Association (NOUNAA) has taken a significant step toward promoting entrepreneurship and job creation among Nigerian youths by establishing a water production factory in Abuja.

Dr Alimi Etsu, the NOUNAA Secretary disclosed this in a statement signed on Friday.

This initiative aligns with the association’s vision of fostering economic empowerment and enhancing community development.

The foundation for the water factory was laid at the proposed Alumni Village in the Kuchyako district of Kuje Area Council, with the ceremony led by NOUN Vice Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Isaac Butwats.

In his remarks, Professor Butwats praised the alumni’s commitment to initiatives that stimulate economic growth and empower the youth.

He emphasized that the University would continue to support projects that contribute to employment generation and entrepreneurial skill development.

The Alumni Association President, Ambassador Ifeanyi Kingsley Obukwelu, described the water factory as a strategic investment aimed at facilitating self-sustaining initiatives for the University and its surrounding communities.

He expressed optimism that the project would generate job opportunities, inspire entrepreneurship among the youth, and make a positive economic impact.

During the association’s congress, Amb. Obukwelu also highlighted several accomplishments, including the empowerment of members, sponsorship of 60 alumni in an entrepreneurship certificate program, and the launch of various initiatives like the NOUN Alumni Bulletin, an award for the best graduating student, and a new alumni portal and payment gateway.

He reiterated his commitment to advocating for the university and advancing the association’s objectives.

The congress concluded with members expressing confidence in the association’s leadership and its progressive efforts to drive impactful projects.
