Insecurity: Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, Kebbi Govt To Host 2025 Security Summit

Deeply concerned by the persistent wave of insecurity and its devastating toll on lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure across Nigeria particularly in the North, the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners
Forum (ABMPF), in collaboration with the Kebbi State Government, has concluded plans to host the
2025 Broadcast Media Security Summit in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on Monday, November 10, 2025.

The summit, themed: “The North: Existential Threats and National Security,” is conceived as a
strategic response to the deteriorating security situation in the region. It aims to provide a critical
platform for dialogue, collaboration, and collective action among stakeholders determined to end the
cycle of violence and insecurity threatening the peace and unity of the nation.

Concerned that years of interventions have yielded only minimal and unsustainable outcomes, the
Forum asserts that Nigeria’s pursuit of lasting security must be continuous, comprehensive, and
    coordinated.

The 2025 Summit will therefore rally broadcasters, policymakers, and security
professionals to explore innovative strategies that strengthen communication channels, build public
trust, and enhance the effectiveness of ongoing security reforms.

The Governor of Kebbi State will host the event alongside the Governors of Borno, Kaduna, Katsina,
Niger, and Sokoto States, who are expected to participate as Special Guests.

Their collective presence underscores the shared responsibility of Northern leaders in tackling the multidimensional security challenges confronting the region’s socio-economic development.
His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, will serve as Chairman of
the Occasion, while Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (Rtd) former Chief of Army Staff and
former Minister of Interior will deliver the Keynote Address.

Over one hundred delegates from radio
and television stations across Northern Nigeria, alongside security experts, traditional and religious
leaders, civil society organizations, and government representatives, are expected to attend.

Deliberations will focus on critical issues such as conflict-sensitive reporting, misinformation, radicalization, inter-agency collaboration, and the ethical obligations of broadcasters during national crises.

The summit seeks to reposition the broadcast media as a central actor in countering violent extremism, promoting reconciliation, and fostering a united national identity.

The ABMPF and the Kebbi State Government firmly believe that no nation can triumph over insecuritywithout an informed, united, and resilient citizenry.

The broadcast media being the most accessible instrument of mass enlightenment must therefore be empowered, protected, and strategically
integrated into the national security framework.

The 2025 Broadcast Media Security Summit represents a major milestone in reaffirming the media’s role as a stabilizing force and peace-building tool.

The event will conclude with a joint communiqué containing actionable recommendations and frameworks for sustained partnership between media
institutions, government agencies, and security actors across Northern Nigeria.
We note with concern the mischaracterization of terrorism as genocidal killing of Nigerian Christians.

The Forum wishes to emphasize that the victims of insecurity in Nigeria cut across all ethnicities,
    faiths, and regions.

It is, therefore wrong to suggest that only members of a particular sect or group are being targeted.

The killings ravaging parts of the country are not acts of genocide but acts of terrorism, driven by
criminality and extremist ideologies that must be confronted collectively.

Furthermore, the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum takes strong exception to any leader,
group, or external entity seeking to threaten or undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty under any guise.

The Forum reaffirms that Nigeria remains an independent, sovereign nation, fully capable of addressing its
domestic challenges in accordance with its constitutional and territorial integrity.

The ABMPF, in partnership with the Kebbi State Government, remains unwavering in its commitment
to fostering peace through responsible communication, collaboration, and professionalism.
