The Federal Road Safety Corps has taken another proactive approach towards easing traffic gridlock on the two Niger bridges linking Onitsha and Asaba major corridor.
Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer at the Federal Road Safety Corps
Headquarters, Abuja disclosed this in a statement signed on Tuesday.
The two government authorities are joining forces with the Anambra and Delta State Commands of the Nigeria Police Force.
The partnership was reached following a critical session by the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, and the Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam as well as his counterpart in Delta State, CP BS Oluwafemi.
Part of the interventions to be put in place include: Removal of all checkpoints at the Head Bridge from December 18, 2024 to January 10, 2025, establishment of mobile surveillance at the Second Bridge axis, dismantling of all police checkpoints on the Delta side of the Old Niger Bridge to facilitate free traffic flow, as well as adequate deployment of officers for joint traffic control on the two bridges during the yuletide season.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed has applauded the Sector Commander for the synergy.
Mohammed said that the collaboration would strengthen the resolve of the Corps towards achieving safety and ease of movement for all road users on the Niger bridges during the festive period.
He therefore called on the motoring public to give adequate cooperation to road traffic management personnel and comply with all traffic rules and regulations.
