A total 14 Directors (GL 17 officers) of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, (FMITI) were transited into the new performance appraisal System.
The system was to align with the directives of Public Service of Nigeria that the whole service should embrace Performance Management System (PMS) as against the regular Annual Performance method of assessing staff performance.
A statement signed by Eugene Oyinye on behalf of the Director Press and Public Relations said the Directors had in the last three days, gone through necessary induction on the new PMS.
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Evelyn Ngige called on the Directors to be committed to the new process, because the civil service was no longer a haven for redundancy.
Ngige said that change could no longer be resisted.
Dr Ngige said the Federal Government of Nigeria adopted the Employee Performance Management Appraisal System.
The system provided rewards for work done, objectivity in appraisal after a long period, and setting of objectives and targets based on national standards.
The Permanent Secretary said the PMS “is a systematic process, setting targets, providing support for employees, as well as measuring results.”
She said that it aligned with digital technology that would help public officers to think out of the box and add value to the system.
She called on the support of the consultants responsible for the integration to develop capacity for efficient output.
The project consultant and Chief Executive of Frandek International, Dr. Francisca Odeka said that for the PMS process to be successful, it must be done in an orderly manner.
From the head of the leadership to trickle down to the other levels of the staff.
She said that PMS was not a concept but practice based system which gave room for interaction of staff with their Directors in a written form.
It was a factual dynamic system for building confident and capacity.
