Good day, esteemed citizens of our great nation. I am CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force. As we joyfully approach the festive season, a time of celebration, togetherness, and reflection, the Nigeria Police is committed to ensuring your safety and security. While we are doubling our efforts to keep you safe this season, your active participation in your own security is paramount.

Firstly, ensure situational awareness. Always pay attention to your surroundings, whether you’re at the market, a social gathering, or on the road. Notice unfamiliar faces, suspicious packages, or unusual activities. Trust your instincts; if something feels wrong, it probably is. Avoid walking alone in isolated areas, especially at night.

Secondly, secure your homes and valuables. Before travelling or leaving your residence for extended periods, ensure all doors and windows are properly locked. Consider investing in strong locks, alarm systems, or even having a trusted neighbour keep an eye on your property. When out, keep your bags close, and be wary of pickpockets in crowded places.

Thirdly, prioritise road safety and travel responsibly. For those embarking on journeys, ensure your vehicles are in good working condition. Avoid late-night travels on isolated routes where possible.

For public transport users, only patronize registered and reputable transport companies and share your travel details with family or friends.

Fourthly, exercise caution with online transactions. The festive season often sees an increase in online scams, and fraudulent offers. Be very suspicious of unsolicited emails, messages, or calls asking for personal or financial details. Verify the authenticity of any online transaction or promotion before engaging. Remember, if an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Finally, and most importantly, report all suspicious activities immediately. The Nigeria Police Force is here to serve you. Do not hesitate to visit the nearest Police station to lay your complaints. Your prompt information can help us prevent crime and ensure everyone enjoys a peaceful celebration.

On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the entire Nigeria Police Force, I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Thank you.
