The slip road connecting Goodluck Jonathan Express Way with the Ring Road 11 at Galadimawa Roundabout has been reopened for vehicular movement.

Nkechi Isa, Head of Public Affairs at the FCT Emergency Management Department, (FEMD) disclosed this in a statement.

The road was Barricaded on June 25th this year to mitigate the impact of flooding during the rainy season.

At the reopening of the road, the Ag Director General of FEMD Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed informed that the slip road was being reopened following the cessation of the rainy season.

Abdulrahman said that the Department was consistent with barricading the slip road in order to save lives and property.

He said: “Every July, we close this road to control flooding. To the glory of God, no life was lost since 2020 because we made it a tradition to block the road during the rainy season”.

He also announced the commencement of the dry season campaign.

The FEMD boss appealed to residents to switch off electrical appliances when not in use, not to refill hot machinery or store fuel in the home or car.

He also cautioned against indiscriminate bush burning and also said that domestic gas cylinders must be kept outside the kitchen.

The Director of Engineering Services, Federal Capital Development Authority, (FCDA) Mr Richard Dauda explained that the slip road was part of old infrastructure in the area.

Represented by Mr Matthias Gunar, Dauda said that the new road infrastructure included 3 more bridges to replace the existing temporary culvert which is contributing to flooding of the road.
