The Registrar-General/CEO of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Alhaji Garba Abubakar at the Anti-Corruption for Development Summit in Washington DC, lectured a panel session on the implementation of Beneficial Ownership Transparency Principles in Nigeria.
The RG spoke alongside counterparts from North Macedonia.
The International Summit was organized by the World Bank and other partners including the Open Ownership and Returning Assets.
It could be recalled that between Wednesday, May 24 and Thursday, 25th, 2023, the CAC recorded another milestone achievement when it unveiled the Beneficial Ownership Register (BOR), the first in Africa in accordance with global best practices.
Guests from other nations including Britain’s Tom Townsend congratulated the CAC for the feat, which they said, was still in the teething stage in their home countries.
As a follow up to the ground breaking event, a 3-day Multilateral Peer Exchange Event on Practical Aspects of Implementing Beneficial Ownership Reforms was rounded up with applause for the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for implanting far-reaching reforms to improve its operations.
The gathering, which drew stakeholders from Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, South Africa, Germany, and the United Kingdom, was co-organised by the Open Ownership (OO), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the Stolen Assets Recovery Initiative (StAR).
The CAC has been breaking grounds and achieving numerous milestones since the assumption of office by Alhaji Garba Abubakar Alias, the Digital RG.
The series of reforms rolled out by the Commission earned it many accolades from both within and outside the country.
