Director General NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, visited Yola, the capital of Adamawa state, where he met with Governor Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

The purpose was to offer condolences to the people of Adamawa and promote the use of life jackets and safe canoeing practices on inland waterways.

Accompanying the DG were Director Search And Rescue Air Commodore KR Mataluwo, SA to the DG Idris Muhammed, and Deputy Director Operations Bashir Idris Garga.

The DG emphasized the need to reconsider disaster risk management, especially concerning annual flood disasters and boat accidents along major rivers.

He said that some of these disasters were predictable and avoidable.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the DG and his team for the visit and commended NEMA’s effective emergency response in Nigeria and specifically in Adamawa State.

The Governor pledged to allocate a suitable office and warehouse within the Government House premises to prevent the ongoing vandalism of NEMA warehouses by miscreants.
