The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to achieving one trillion dollars economy by 2030, need for strong policy coordination and strategic national planning.

The was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the ministry, Mrs Julie Osagie-Jacobs, in Abuja on Monday.

Bagudu made the remark while receiving the newly appointed Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, who resumed duty at the ministry.

He said the administration of President Bola Tinubu was determined to pursue the ambitious economic target by growing the nation’s economy at an average annual rate of seven per cent.

The minister said that the forthcoming National Development Plan (NDP 2026–2030) would provide the framework to guide economic reforms, investment priorities and development initiatives across the country.

Bagudu said that the ministry is the nation’s official planning authority, and it’s responsible for preparing and coordinating the national development plans.

Harmonising fiscal and economic policies and providing strategic policy advice to the President.

He said that the ministry also coordinates development initiatives across the federal, state and local government levels.

The minister recalled discussions at the National Economic Council (NEC) which identified key policy priorities to accelerate national development.

Bagudu said they include stronger coordination among the three tiers of government.

According to him, other priorities, include increased investment in security, sustained funding for transformative infrastructure and strengthened enforcement against illegal activities in the extractive sector, particularly crude oil theft and illegal mining.

Bagudu said that the ministry continues to coordinate international development partnerships aimed at supporting the country’s economic growth.

He said that the recent upgrade of bilateral relations between Nigeria and China to a comprehensive strategic partnership has resulted in several cooperation agreements focused on economic development.

In her remarks, Uzoka-Anite said that achieving the country’s growth ambitions would require the private sector to drive about 95 per cent of economic development, while the Federal Government contributes the remaining five per cent.

She said that this administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda should be largely driven by the private sector to realise its objectives.

“I have no doubt that the President can achieve the one trillion dollar economy as he has started by laying the foundation for that to happen through the introduction of economic reforms and the implementation of the NDP,” Uzoka-Anite said.

She thanked the President for the opportunity to serve in different capacities within the administration.

Uzoka-Anite had previously served as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.

Later as Minister of State for Finance before her latest appointment as Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning.
