    AIG Zone 5 Benin Hosts FIDA, Reaffirms Commitment To Protection Of Women, Children

    The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Edo State branch led by the Chairperson, Princess Francisca Elema Esq. visited the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin City, AIG Monday Agbonika, on Tuesday 8th September, 2026.

    SP Tijani Momoh, the Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 5 Headquarters,
    Benin City disclosed this in a statement.

    The visit was part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in promoting the rights, welfare and protection of women and children.

    The organization is dedicated to the protection, promotion and preservation of the rights, welfare and interests of women and children, particularly in relation to access to justice, protection from gender based violence and other forms of abuse.

    The chairperson expressed appreciation to the AIG for receiving the delegation and acknowledged the significant role of the Nigeria Police Force in protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order.

    She also congratulated the AIG on his promotion and redeployment as the AIG Zone 5 Benin, she added that her visit was aimed at having a working relationship with the gender and legal office of the Zone.

    She reiterated the commitment of FIDA to partner with the Police and other relevant stakeholders to address challenges affecting women and children, particularly gender-based violence, domestic violence, sexual abuse, child abuse, etc.

    The visit provided an opportunity for both organizations to explore areas of mutual cooperation, including legal assistance, public enlightenment, capacity building and improved communication between FIDA and the Police.

    The AIG expressed his delight in meeting with the group and commended the organization for its longstanding advocacy for women and children and its contribution to access to justice and the protection of vulnerable members of the society.

    AIG Agbonika further assured the delegation that Zone 5 Headquarters will continue to support lawful initiatives aimed at protecting the fundamental rights of women and children, while ensuring that complaints involving, gender-based violence, domestic violence and other forms of abuse will receive appropriate attention and professional handling by the Police.

    The AIG further stressed the need for victims and members of the public to have confidence in law enforcement agencies. He also underscored the importance of early reporting of such cases at the nearest Division.

    The visit ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism that the partnership between FIDA Edo State and the Nigeria Police Force will contribute significantly to the protection of women and children and the advancement of justice in Edo State and beyond.
