The Agora policy, a Nigerian think tank, would convene stakeholders meeting to deliberate on how to sustain, deepen and improve the country’s ongoing macroeconomic reforms.
This was contained in a statement issued by the organiser, in Abuja on Wednesday.
The policy dialogue, themed “Sustaining and Deepening Economic Reforms in Nigeria,” is scheduled to hold at the Yar’Adua centre, on Thursday.
According to the organisers, the meeting would bring together senior officials from government, the private sector, civil society organisations, academia, the media, think tanks and development agencies.
The dialogue aims to examine the implications of Nigeria’s current reform agenda and explore practical ways of consolidating macroeconomic gains while reducing the social impact of the reforms.
The panel discussion would be preceded by a presentation of highlights from a new study by Agora policy examining the impact of some of the economic reforms, produced with the support of the NEST programme.
The presentation woud be followed by an interactive session with participants drawn from across key sectors of the economy.
Agora policy said the dialogue is designed to undertake an objective assessment of the economic reforms introduced by the administration of Bola Tinubu.
It added that the meeting would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to deliberate constructively on how to sustain and improve the reforms, while laying a stronger foundation for the next phase of policy changes.
The organisation also said that the dialogue forms part of broader efforts to deepen consensus, build trust and promote inclusion in the design and implementation of economic reforms in the country.
According to the organisers, the event is organised with support from the Nigeria Economic Stability and Transformation (NEST) programme, an initiative of the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
It is also being held in partnership with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.
A major highlight of the event would be a panel discussion featuring Dr Muhammad Abdullahi, Deputy Governor economic policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Ms Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and the Economy.
Dr Hussaini Abdu, Country Director of CARE International Nigeria, Dr Chinyere Almona, Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Dr Samer Matta, Senior Economist for Nigeria at the World Bank Group.
The session would be moderated by Mr Rotus Oddiri, anchor of “The Global Business Report” on Arise News.
Agora policy is a Nigerian non-profit think tank committed to providing practical solutions to national challenges through policy research, dialogue and capacity building in governance and public policy.
