The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has partnered with the CLEEN Foundation to conduct a specialized training on Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) and Gender Based Violence Preventive Strategies for Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) across the country.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, disclosed this in a statement signed on Tuesday.
The second phase of the initiative, aimed at strengthening strategic communication capacities within the Force, commenced today, Monday, July 8, 2025, to be held till Thursday July 10, 2025, at Ikeja, Lagos State, with the First phase having been held from 24th – 26th June 2025, at Kaduna State.
The IGP, who was ably represented at the opening ceremony by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Oluhundare Jimoh Moshood, formally declared the training open.
In his address, the IGP emphasized the critical role of strategic communication in bridging the gap between the police and the public, particularly in promoting positive behavioural change, transparency, and public trust.
The IGP said that the Social and Behavioural Change Communication training is timely and significant, as it equips Police PROs with essential tools to better manage public perception, counter misinformation, and engage citizens in a more empathetic and impactful manner.
The IGP noted that police officers, especially spokespersons, must be equipped not only with operational knowledge but also with refined communication skills to foster a culture of accountability and professionalism.
This second phase of training brings together Police Public Relations Officers from across the southern region of the Country, and will focus on critical areas including audience analysis, persuasive messaging, behaviour change strategies, use of digital media, and effective engagement with diverse communities.
The Inspector-General of Police reaffirms the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force to promoting proactive, responsive, and citizen-centered policing through continuous capacity development, inter-agency collaboration, and effective communication with the public.
