The Minister of Defence, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to equipping the Nigerian Armed Forces with modern capabilities to combat emerging security threats effectively.

College Public Relations Officer disclosed this in a statement signed on Thursday.
He made this statement while delivering a lecture at the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) to participants of AWCN Course 9/2025 at the College Lecture Hall in Asokoro, Abuja.
The Ministe emphasized that national security threats are evolving rapidly, requiring a dynamic and well-equipped military to counter them. According to him, the Ministry of Defence has prioritized intelligence gathering, modernizing the Armed Forces, and fostering strategic partnerships to enhance operational readiness.
“A well-equipped military is key to defeating emerging security threats. We are committed to providing the Nigerian Armed Forces with the necessary tools, intelligence, and technology to stay ahead of adversaries,” he said.
The Minister highlighted key investments made by the Ministry, including the acquisition of Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected (MRAP) vehicles, advanced surveillance drones, and upgraded air and land combat platforms.
He noted that the restructuring of force deployment and enhancement of personnel welfare remain central to achieving operational effectiveness.
The Minister also stressed the need for improved civil-military cooperation, adding that national security requires a whole-of-society approach.
He commended participants of AWCN Course 9/2025 for their dedication to military strategy and leadership, urging them to apply their knowledge in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Commandant AWCN, Major General Umar Mohammed Alkali, expressed profound appreciation for the Minister’s insightful lecture, highlighting the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to professional military education and capacity building.
He commended the government’s sustained investment in strengthening military institutions, emphasizing the importance of equipping participants with necessary knowledge, skills, and strategies to address contemporary security challenges.
The event included the presentation of a souvenir to the Minister and group photographs with faculty members, participants of AWCN Course 9/2025, and other dignitaries.
