Recently, there’s been a spike in cases of armed robbery in Karu LGA of Nasarawa State where young boys between the ages of 19 to 25 years go about in groups attacking residents and dispossessing them of their belongings.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada rejigged the community policing template of the area by mobilising members of the public and Vigilante groups in the area to work in synergy with the Police.
The strategy paid off on Friday at about 23: 45hours when information was received that a gang of 8 armed robbers were attacking some residents of Aso Pada, Mararaba Area of Karu Local Government, Nasarawa state.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Police Command, Nasarawa State, made this known in a statement signed on Saturday for the Commissioner of Police, Shehu Nadada.
Upon receipt of the information, Police operatives in collaboration with Vigilante and some brave members of the community went after the hoodlums thus, neutralised one Ifienyichukwu Ilegalu and arrested one Edache Joseph, 20years where two stolen phones and other items were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.
The suspect has made a useful statement, and he is assisting the Police in the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police has therefore commended the efforts of the police operatives, vigilante group, and members of the community for their display of bravery and assured them of his continuous support.
He tasked other members of the public to cooperate with the Police in order to rid the state of criminals.
