The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the Responsive Humanitarian Leadership Award.
The Award is in recognition of her outstanding leadership and contributions to emergency and disaster management in Nigeria.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar received the prestigious recognition from Blueprint Newspapers alongside other eminent personalities, including State Governors, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, senior public officials and distinguished captains of industry.
The award was presented to the Director General by the Andoma of Doma, His Royal Highness Dr. Ahmadu Aliyu Onawo, on behalf of Blueprint Newspapers during the 8th Blueprint Newspapers Annual Public Lecture and Impact Series/Awards, held today at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The event attracted high-profile dignitaries from across the country, including State Governors, Honourable Ministers, political leaders, senior government officials, traditional rulers, business executives and other distinguished personalities.
The award represents another recognition of the transformational leadership of Mrs. Zubaida Umar and her commitment to repositioning NEMA towards a more proactive, people-centred and responsive disaster management system.
It also adds to a growing list of recognitions received by the Director General for her commitment to public service, humanitarian leadership and the strengthening of Nigeria’s disaster management architecture.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar expressed appreciation to Blueprint Newspapers for the recognition and dedicated the award to the management and staff of NEMA, as well as stakeholders and partners in Nigeria’s disaster management community, whose collective efforts continue to strengthen the country’s emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
She also expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity given to her to serve the country, and to the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, for his guidance and support in advancing the Federal Government’s disaster risk management and humanitarian objectives.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar reaffirmed her commitment to providing purposeful leadership at NEMA and working closely with relevant stakeholders to further strengthen disaster risk reduction, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives, livelihoods and communities across the country.
