The University of Mkar is empowering students with practical problem-solving skills by establishing a Student Innovation Hub.

This move responds directly to Dr. Jeffrey Kuraun’s challenge during the institution’s 19th Distinguished Public Lecture, themed: “Navigating an Uncertain Future: Courage, Creativity and Responsibility in Times of Crisis.”

Dr. Kuraun urged students to shift from passive learning to active solution-building for Nigeria’s challenges. He called for Student Innovation Labs to turn ideas into real-world impact—a vision the university has swiftly embraced.

The new hub fosters an environment where students meet, brainstorm, collaborate, and tackle societal needs. It embodies Dr. Kuraun’s push for innovation beyond the classroom.

According to the Technocrat, Students will address real-world community challenges with faculty mentoring on practical problem-solving, partnering with entrepreneurs and development experts, while prioritizing community impact over pure theory.

Its motto—“Think. Imagine. Create.”—inspires students to architect solutions, not just observe national struggles.

Dr. Kuraun stressed that Nigeria’s future hinges on youth transitioning from victimhood to visionary leadership.

He challenged them to build skills in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and data analysis; apply knowledge to campus and community problems; develop financial literacy and resilience amid economic uncertainty; and collaborate across disciplines for scalable innovations.

The hub now brings this vision to life, transforming ideas into projects that drive national development. This initiative positions University of Mkar as a model for higher institutions nationwide.

By prioritizing creativity, collaboration, and responsibility, it echoes the lecture’s core message: an uncertain future can be shaped by courageous, innovative minds.

Dr. Kuraun’s resonant challenge endures: “You are not just here to absorb knowledge. You are here to co-create the future.”The Student Innovation Hub marks a vital step toward that reality.
