    Yunusa Hudu Ari

*Says Intended Disciplinary Action Not In Good Faith

    By Miriam Humbe

The Alliance For Justice In Nigeria has urged the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Barrister Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau to sheathe his sword of summarily sentencing Barrister Yunusa Hudu Ari, through the instrumentality of the NBA organs and allow due process of the law to take its deserving course.

Barrister Yunusa Hudu Ari is the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner of Adamawa State in the 2023 General Elections who declared governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisha Binani as winner of the election in the State.

The Alliance For Justice In Nigeria made the plea to the NBA President in an Open Letter titled: Open Appeal To The President Of Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA); Barrister Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, SAN On The Hurriedly Planned Disciplinary Action Against Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari.

The Open Letter was signed on August 26, 2023 by Dr. Tizhe Tumba Joseph, President and Ibrahim Buba Kojoli, Secretary-General of the Alliance For Justice In Nigeria.

In the Open Letter, the Alliance For Justice In Nigeria said according to the principle of fair hearing, Barrister Yunusa Hudu Ari ought to be presumed innocent until a competent Court of jurisdiction finds him guilty.

The Alliance For Justice In Nigeria wrote the Open Letter because it was discovered that in his capacity as President of the NBA, Barrister Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau SAN unilaterally caused an action to refer Barrister Yunusa Hudu Ari to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, (LPDC) for investigation and possible sanctions.

The Alliance For Justice In Nigeria considered the NBA President’s intended action as being hurriedly taken in view of the fact that the matter of Barrister Yunusa Hudu Ari was pending before both the Adamawa State High Court and the Adamawa State Electoral Petition Tribunal.

The Alliance For Justice In Nigeria therefore advised the NBA President that as far as the case of Barrister Yunusa Hudu Ari vis-a-vis the Adamawa Governorship Elections Tribunal was concerned, “the speed at which you are pursuing the case is to say the least, not only bunkum but gibberish and counter-productive to the administration of justice in Nigeria.”
