    NiMet Predicts Dust Haze, Sunny Atmosphere, Thunderstorms Across Nigeria

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, (NiMet) has predicted sunny and hazy weather in the North and North Central parts of the country starting on Thursday.

    NiMet also alerted that on Friday, there would be moderate dust haze with sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North Central region.

    Also, few patches of clouds in hazy atmosphere is expected over the inland cities of the South and coastal belt with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Edo, Bayelsa and Delta states in the afternoon/evening of Friday.

    On Saturday, there’s expected slight dust haze over the North with sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North Central States.

    Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states are expected to experience isolated thunderstorms with few patches of clouds in hazy atmosphere.

    Here’s a full text of NiMet’s Three Days Climate Prediction (Thursday, January 4th to Saturday, January 6th):

    Day 1 (Thursday 4th): Sunny and
    Hazy atmosphere is anticipated over the North and North Central regions
    of the country throughout the forecast period.

    Sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the inland areas of the South during the forecast period while, few clouds in hazy atmosphere is expected over the coastal cities with slim prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Lagos, Rivers and Bayelsa states during the afternoon/evening period.

    Day 2 (Friday 5th): Moderate Dust
    Haze with horizontal visibility range of 2 – 5 km and localized visibility of less or equal to 1000mis expected over the Northern region during the forecast period. Sunny and Hazy atmosphere is expected over the North Central region throughout the forecast period.

    Few patches of clouds in hazy atmosphere is expected over the inland cities of the South and coastal belt with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Edo, Bayelsa and Delta states in the afternoon/evening period.

    Day 3 (Saturday 6th): Slight Dust
    Haze is expected over the Northern
    region during the forecast period.
    Sunny and Hazy atmosphere is
    anticipated over the North Central
    region during the forecast period.

    Few patches of clouds in hazy atmosphere is expected over the inland areas of the South and the coastal cities with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states in the afternoon/evening period.

    Potential impact/Advisory:

    (i) Dust particles are in suspension, public should take necessary precautions.

    (ii) People with Asthma and
    other respiratory issues should be
    cautious of the present weather
    situations.

    (iii) Airline operators are advised to
    get updated weather reports from
    NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
