    NiMet Predicts 3 Days Dust Haze, Tasks Disaster Risk Managers, Agencies To Be Alert

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, (NiMet) on Thursday, predicted a three-day dust haze across the Northern parts of the country, starting from Thursday to Saturday.

    In its potential impact/advisory, NiMet therefore advised Disaster Risk Managers, Agencies and individuals to be proactive, to avert loss of lives and
    property.

    Here’s a full text of the three-day prediction:

    Day 1 (Thursday 11th): Dust Haze
    condition is expected over the Northern region and the North Central states during the forecast period.

    Patches of clouds in hazy atmosphere is anticipated over the inland cities of the South and coastal belt during the morning hours.

    There is slim prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states during the afternoon/evening hours.

    Day 2 (Friday 12th): Moderate Dust
    Haze with horizontal visibility range
    of 2 – 5 km over the Northern Region
    and the North Central states throughout the forecast period.

    Patches of clouds in hazy atmosphere is expected in the
    morning hours over the inland cities of the South and the coastal states with prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states in the afternoon/evening periods.

    Day 3 (Saturday 13th): Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility range of 2 – 5 km over the Northern region and the North Central states throughout the forecast period.

    Patches of clouds in hazy atmosphere is expected in the morning hours over the inland cities of the South and the coastal states with prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Lagos, Cross river, Bayelsa and Rivers states in the afternoon/evening periods.

    Potential impact/Advisory

    (i) Dust particles are in suspension, public should take necessary precautions.

    (ii) People with Asthma and
    other respiratory issues should be
    cautious of the present weather
    situations.

    (iii) Airline operators are advised to
    get updated with weather report from NiMet for effective planning
    in their operations.

    (iv) Disaster Risk Managers,
    Agencies and individuals should be
    proactive, to avert loss of lives and
    property.
