Nigeria joins the Bureau of the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA) – occupying the African Chair, gains from National Senior Citizens Centre, (NSCC’s) high level advocacy to Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and capacity enhancement of Permanent Mission 3rd Commitee personnel  in New York.
With Nigeria now occupying the African Group Chair, it is highly anticipated that the interest of African states would be activated to join like-minded member States and speed up process
The Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing was established by the General Assembly, resolution 65/182 on 21 December 2010.
The working group was to consider the existing international framework of the human rights of older persons and identify possible gaps and how best to address them.
This would be including considering, as appropriate, the feasibility of further instruments and measures, A/RES/67/139 towards a Comprehensive and Integral International Legal Instrument to Promote and Protect the Rights and Dignity of Older.
