The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja Operations Office has officially flagged off Operation Eagle Eye 2025 at Giri Junction along the Abuja–Lokoja Federal Highway, as part of coordinated efforts to enhance road safety, improve traffic management, and ensure rapid emergency response during the Yuletide season.

The operation was formally declared open on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, by Dr Onimode Bandele, Director Planning, Research and Forecasting NEMA.

The flag-off ceremony was hosted by the NEMA Abuja Operations Office in collaboration with NEMA Headquarters and attended by key emergency management stakeholders.

Dr Bandele conveyed the Director-General’s commitment to proactive disaster risk reduction and strengthened inter-agency collaboration, noting that Operation Eagle Eye remains a critical annual initiative aimed at safeguarding lives and property during periods of increased vehicular movement.

Earlier, the Head of the Abuja Operations Office, Mr. Zakari Abubakar, in a welcome address, underscored the importance of the operation in complementing the statutory roles of FRSC in ensuring safety on Nigerian roads.

He emphasized that the Abuja–Lokoja corridor is among the busiest highways during the festive period, necessitating heightened vigilance, coordination, and readiness.

The programme also featured remarks by the Director of Search and Rescue, NEMA Headquarters, Air Commodore Usman Bature, alongside goodwill messages from participating stakeholders including the Director-General Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Eng. Abdulrahman Mohammed. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), NURTW and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to seamless collaboration throughout the operation.

Highlights of the event included an inspection of response and extrication equipment to assess operational preparedness, followed by a joint patrol by participating agencies along critical sections of the highway, marking the immediate commencement of field operations.

Operation Eagle Eye 2025 is designed to support traffic control, prevent road traffic crashes, and ensure prompt rescue and emergency response during the festive season.

Road users were advised to strictly observe traffic regulations, avoid speeding and reckless driving, and cooperate with officials on duty to ensure a safe, orderly, and hitch-free Yuletide period.
