The Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) says it would unveil the maiden MOFI Excellence Awards in the second quarter of 2026.

The Managing Director (M-D) of MOFI, Dr Armstrong Takang, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

He said that the award was to promote transparency, accountability and sound governance across Federal Government-owned enterprises.

According to him, the awards was a major milestone in the implementation of a robust governance framework for public enterprises.

Takang said that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, which emphasis on fiscal discipline, institutional efficiency and value creation from public assets.

He said that the awards were anchored on the MOFI Corporate Governance Scorecard, launched in April 2025, which provides a structured framework for assessing the performance of boards and management teams in line with global best practices.

The M-D said that an independent technical panel, inaugurated in December 2025 by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, would conduct a comprehensive assessment of MOFI’s portfolio companies.

Takang said that the panel would evaluate institutions using stringent criteria, including regulatory compliance, board effectiveness, transparency, risk management and sectoral impact.

He said that the awards would recognise public enterprises that demonstrate exceptional governance standards, discipline and performance, also to reinforce accountability in the management of government investments.

“MOFI Excellence Awards mark a structural shift in how Nigeria manages public enterprise: transparency is mandated, compliance is measured, and institutional outcomes remain the ultimate measure of fiscal discipline.

“The Awards will recognise institutions that demonstrate exceptional governance, discipline, and performance, reinforcing the notion that “Good Governance is Not optional,” the M-D said.

Takang said that to obtain further information on the awards from its official website: www.mofi.com.ng.
