    By Miriam Humbe

A federal lawmaker representing AMAC/ Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, has said the FCT requires a world-standard emergency management agency.

Mr Obika said this when he received the management team of the FCT Emergency Management Department,(FEMD), led by its Ag. Director General, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed in his office.

Nkechi Isa, Head of Public Affairs at FEMD disclosed this in a statement signed on Monday.

Hon. Obika announced his intention to move a motion on the floor of the House seeking to give FEMD, the legal backing to function as an agency.

He said: “I intend to move the motion this year. It would be a transparent process. I will consult the FCT committee and Area council auxiliary committee.

“This legislation will give the department legal backing to function as an agency”.

The Ag. DG FEMA Engr. Abdulrahman informed that the visit was in fulfillment of a promise made to the law maker during his visit to the recent incident site of a collapsed building at Sabon Lugbe, Airport Road in Abuja.

Engr Abdulrahman commended the lawmaker for his commitment to improving the lives of FCT residents through legislation.
