The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has said that at no time did the Commission contemplate the destruction of uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards, (PVCs).

In a post on its official handle on X, formerly Twitter, on January 5, 2025, @inecnigeria said that its attention was drawn to a newspaper publication which alleged that INEC was contemplating destroying over six million uncollected PVCs dating back to the 2015 voter registration.

INEC therefore, faulted the report saying it was incorrect, and urged the public to disregard it.

@inecnigeria wrote: “Our attention has been drawn to a newspaper report that the Commission is contemplating the destruction of over six million uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) going back to the 2015 voter registration.

@The report is incorrect. At no time did the Commission contemplate the destruction of uncollected PVCs.

“The public is advised to discountenance the story.”
