The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) has been formally recognized for attaining complete compliance in its ministerial deliverables, reflecting a significant achievement in public service performance and the ongoing drive toward digital transformation.
The recognition was announced by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Esther Didi Walson-Jack, during the launch of the Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. The occasion also marked FMITI’s successful migration to the 1Gov ECMS platform, a key milestone in the Federal Civil Service’s digitalization agenda.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, expressed appreciation for the quality of work delivered and commended the Permanent Secretary, the technical team, and project partners for their commitment and perseverance in executing the project.
She noted that the achievement demonstrated the value of focus, accountability, and teamwork in public service, adding that the Ministry’s success was made possible through sustained collaboration, particularly with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation during the project’s final phase.
According to her, despite resource constraints, coordinated effort and strategic partnerships enabled the Ministry to meet its digitization targets within record time.
The Minister further acknowledged the contributions of the Permanent Secretaries’ Network and development partners, emphasizing that their support was instrumental to the timely deployment of the system. She pointed out that the project had not commenced at the same time the previous year, underscoring the scale and speed of its completion.
In her address, Mrs. Walson-Jack congratulated the Ministers and commended the Permanent Secretary, management, and staff of FMITI for their dedication to reform and institutional improvement. She stressed that digital transformation is not limited to technology adoption but also involves changes in work culture and processes across government.
She explained that by adopting the 1Gov platform, FMITI has joined other Ministries operating on a unified digital infrastructure that enhances interoperability, improves data protection, minimizes duplication, and supports seamless collaboration, including real-time internal communication through integrated email services.
Mrs. Walson-Jack added that the deployment of the ECMS positions the Ministry to comply with the Federal Government’s directive on full digitalization by December 31, 2025, while advancing Pillar 5 of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (2021–2025), which prioritizes digital systems, effective records management, and evidence-based policymaking.
She also congratulated the Ministry on its 100 per cent performance and invited its leadership to the upcoming Paperless Civil Service Gala and Awards Night to celebrate achievements in digital innovation.
Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, described the initiative as a step toward aligning the Ministry with international best practices. He observed that digital transformation is essential to improving efficiency and modernizing government operations.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone Limited, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, also praised FMITI for embracing digital solutions as a foundation for transparency, efficiency, and improved citizen engagement.
He reaffirmed Galaxy Backbone’s commitment to supporting government-wide digital initiatives and expressed confidence in the realization of a paperless civil service by the end of 2025.
In his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, disclosed that the digital reporting system became operational within seven days of initiation, following the full deployment of office resources to ensure readiness.
He highlighted the significance of the HCSF’s presence at the event, noting that her schedule was adjusted to accommodate FMITI in recognition of the Ministry’s preparedness and achievement.
He also noted that FMITI went live ahead of many other Federal Ministries.
