Edo Police Command Debunks Six False Claims Against CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin

Recent reports circulating in certain media outlets have made several unfounded allegations against the new Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin.

These accusations, purportedly from an anonymous “whistleblower,” seek to undermine her leadership and commitment to crime fighting. However, a critical review of the claims reveals inconsistencies, misrepresentations, and an attempt to discredit a dedicated public officer.

1.Commitment to Crime Fighting, Not Personal Gain:

The claim that CP Otimenyin is “hell-bent on making money rather than fighting crime” is baseless. Since assuming office, she has implemented strategic measures to enhance security operations in Edo State, including strengthening intelligence gathering, increased patrols, and fostering collaborations with local communities to tackle criminal activities. Her focus remains on upholding law and order, not personal enrichment.

    2.Electricity Usage and Operational Efficiency:

The allegation that CP Otimenyin “turned the Command’s electricity into private property” is misleading. The decision to regulate electricity use is a cost-saving measure aimed at ensuring the efficient allocation of resources.

Running 24-hour electricity is expensive, and it is not unusual for government agencies to implement energy-saving policies. The claim that electricity is only switched on when she is in the office is a misrepresentation of standard administrative procedures.

3.Tactical Team Restructuring for Better Efficiency:

The decision to have tactical teams report directly to the Commissioner of Police is a standard operational adjustment often made by new leadership to enhance accountability, transparency, and efficiency in crime-fighting efforts.

It is within her prerogative to restructure command systems for better performance, and such actions should not be misconstrued as power-grabbing or financial exploitation.

    4.Bank Escort Duty Misrepresentation:

The claim that officers working on bank escort duties are being underpaid under CP Otimenyin is misleading.

Payment structures for such duties are determined by financial institutions and the police administration, not by the Commissioner herself.

The attempt to attribute this to her leadership suggests a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

    5.Reaching out to the PPRO:

The claim that they reached out to the PPRO “SP Chidi Nwabuzor” was laughable and goes to show that the writer who is hell bent on misleading the public is not in tune with reality as the said officer left the Command Seven (7) months ago.

6.A Calculated Attempt to Discredit a Respected Officer:

CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin who took over from CP Umoru Peter Ozigi (now retired) not CP Nemi Iwo (now AIG) as erroneously mentioned by the writer, has served diligently in the Nigeria Police Force, earning respect for her professionalism and commitment to justice.

The allegations against her appears clearly to be an orchestrated effort to resist much-needed reforms within the Edo State Police Command.

Leadership changes often come with resistance, especially when entrenched interests feel threatened.

The allegations lack verifiable evidence and should be dismissed as an attempt to distract from the real work being done to improve security in Edo State.

The public is advised to disregard these baseless accusations and support the Commissioner in her efforts to maintain law and order.

CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin remains committed to serving the people of Edo State with integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
