The 28th Conference of the Parties, (COP) code named COP28 would have climate and health as its main theme.
Director-General of the World Health Organization, (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made this known on Thursday via a chat on his Twitter handle, @DrTedros.
Conference of the Parties is a United Nations annual Climate Change Conference.
Combining the two issues, the WHO boss said that Climate crisis was also a health crisis.
Dr. Ghebreyesus said the World Health Organization (WHO) welcomed the COP28 scheduled for the UAE whose strategic decisions included health at the center of discussions.
He said that for the first time ever, the Conference of Parties would hold a health and climate ministerial meeting.
@DrTedros wrote: “The climate crisis is a health crisis. @WHO welcomes @COP28_UAE’s strategic decisions to include health at the centre of #COP28 discussions and hold the first-ever health and climate ministerial meeting.”
COP 28 was expected to take place between November 30 to December 12, 2023 with dates for the pre-sessionals yet to be announced.
The 2022 COP27 took place at the Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt where countries converged to take action towards achieving the world’s collective climate goals.
