The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday,
confirmed the arrest of the fleeing Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari.
Barr. Yunusa-Ari who had been on the run, was alleged to have announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Aisha Binani as winner of the Adamawa gubernatorial elections during the recently concluded supplementary polls.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) therefore called for his arrest and investigation on the basis of alleged impropriety in the course of the supplementary gubernatorial polls in the State.
Force Public Relations Officer, (FPRO) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement signed on Tuesday confirmed that
Barrister Ari was arrested by the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team in Abuja on Tuesday.
The FPRO said that the REC was currently in Police custody and was being grilled to ascertain the motives and motivations behind his alleged improper actions during the supplementary elections in Adamawa State.
The Police spokesperson said that other officials and individuals culpable in the saga were additionally being interrogated by the team.
The statement said: ” Inspector-General of Police has given clear assurance that every individual involved/indicted in the matter will be apprehended and investigated in line with the provisions of the law for possible prosecution.
“The Inspector-General of Police has assured of the commitment of the Force to ensuring that justice is served in this case and that all guilty parties are brought to justice.”
