Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State emerged victorious against Zangon Kataf with a lone goal, at the grand finale of the Maiden Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Peace and Unity Cup 2025 was held in Kaduna State.
Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau disclosed this in a statement signed on Monday.
The competition drew enthusiastic support and showcased the unifying power of sports among local communities, with Sabon Gari securing the prestigious title in the spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie.
The football tournament, initiated under the leadership of the CDS, General Christopher Gwabin Mus was strategically organized to promote peace, unity, and grassroots engagement among the diverse communities in Kaduna State.
The event provided a vital platform for dialogue, cooperation, and reconciliation, particularly in areas with histories of communal tension.
The final match witnessed a vibrant turnout and was graced by notable dignitaries.
The Commissioner for Sports was present to lend support, while the Governor of Kaduna State was ably represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Abubakar Buba, who commended the initiative as a timely intervention in fostering inter-community unity.
As part of the ceremony, individual and team awards were presented to celebrate excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The CDS Peace and Unity Cup is expected to become a regular fixture, with future editions expanding to more local governments and states, further cementing the role of the Armed Forces in supporting national peacebuilding efforts through non-kinetic engagements.
