The Force Commander, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Godwin Michael Mutkut has highlighted the crucial role of education in tackling the security challenges in Nigeria’s North East region.

Chief Military Public Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba disclosed this in a statement signed on Monday.

The FC made the statement during the commissioning of 270 classroom chairs donated by the African Union (AU).

General Mutkut stressed that education was a key instrument in diminishing the recruitment potential for terrorist groups like Boko Haram, which frequently target uneducated youths.

Represented by the Commander 19 Brigade Brigadier General Suleiman Ahmed, the FC expressed appreciation for the AU’s generous donation of high-quality classroom chairs to Cross Kauwa Primary and Secondary School.

He emphasized that improving educational opportunities for children in the community was vital for creating a hopeful future and building a society resistant to extremism.

General Mutkut pointed out that investing in education and positively engaging with youth are essential for shaping the society of tomorrow.

He extended his gratitude to the AU team and the European Union for their commitment to renovating a classroom block at the school, which had been previously commissioned, and for the recent supply of 270 desks.

The FC further called on community members within Sector 3 to continue their support and collaboration with the troops.

“Together, we can achieve lasting peace in the North East,” he asserted.

Dr. Idam Christiana, the team leader of the AU Mission Support Team, reiterated that this initiative is part of the AU’s continuous support for the MNJTF and aligns with the goals of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) in combating Boko Haram.

“Our partnership with local communities through impactful projects is essential for fostering a sustainable environment for peace and development,” she stated.
