    Western Customs Marine Command Siezes 1.958kg Cannabis Sativa Worth N398 million

    The Western Marine Command has made yet another day cannabis sativa seizure in its intensified effort to combat anti-smuggling activities in the Western water ways.

    This was contained in a statement released on Sunday by the Customs Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Benjamin Lomba.

    The statement said that the Command in its strategized operation modalities in anti-smuggling activities, intercepted 55 sacks of cannabis sativa weighting 1.958kg with a duty paid value of N398 million.

    The Customs area Controller, Comptroller Basmisacye said that the cannabis was intercepted at IIase core sea beach which is about 200 nautical miles from the Lagos anchorage.

    The Comptroller said that the smugglers made spirited effort to escape with the cannabis sativa but his officer was on top of the game as they overpowered them forcing them to jump into the sea abandoning their boat and the cannabis which were brought to the Command.

    The Comptroller recalled that two months earlier his men has made a seizure of 15 sacks of containing 1,021 loves of cannabis sativa weighing 538kg worth N107 million.

    He stated that in line with the established procedures, the seizure which are hard drugs will be handed over to NDLEA while ensuring of the command continued partnership with other sister Agencies in ensuring the protection of the nation border.

    He appreciated the comptroller general and his management team for their support in the war against smuggling operations by providing the critical resources and needed equipments to the command.
